Patient Choices at the Kilmore & District Hospital
Public or Private? The Choice is Yours.
When you are admitted to this hospital for care you will be asked to make an election of care. That is to be treated as a "Public Patient" or as a "Private Patient".
As a patient of the Kilmore & District Hospital, you will receive the highest possible standard of care.
Your choice to be admitted as either public or private will be respected.
If you Elect to be Treated as a Private Insured Patient You Will:
- Receive treatment from a Doctor of your choice.
- Be admitted to a private (single) room (where available).
- Incur no costs for medical treatment as a privately insured in-patient, where your Doctor is registered as a "No Gap" provider with the Kilmore & District Hospital.
EXCEPTION: Nursing Home Type Patients will be required to pay the nursing home type fee where hospitalised after 35 days of continuous care. This may incorporate more than one hospital / health facility.
The Kilmore & District Hospital offers privately insured in-patients:
- No out of pocket medical expenses including health fund excess, when your Doctor is registered as a "No Gap" provider with the Kilmore & District Hospital.
- Nursing Home Type Patients will be levied the daily nursing home type fee after 35 days of continuous care.
Uninsured Patient Will:
- Receive treatment from a Doctor of your choice.
- Be admitted to a private (single) room (where available).
- Be responsible for all associated costs including; hospital accommodation fees, charges for medical services including diagnostic services and physiotherapy.
If You Elect to be Treated as a Public Patient You Will:
- Be treated by a doctor who is affiliated with the hospital.
- Incur no costs for medical treatment as a public in-patient.
Emergency Department Consultations:
If you have an initial medical consultation in the Emergency Department, this may be billed privately to you as this is recognised as being an outpatient services, Doctors may on occasion charge above the scheduled fee.
