Our Hospital Opp Shop recently reached the fantastic milestone of turning over $500K in sales. To celebrate this achievement we had a 'thank you' lunch with the available Opp Shop Committee Members on Wednesday 4 November 2015. Unfortunately the President, Shirley Robinson, was unwell and couldn't attend. Prof. Ian Brand, our Director of Medical Services, delighted participants with his stories of working in Papua New Guinea and Australia. Pictured below are the Opp Shop group, together with Prof. Ian Brand (2nd from left) and Carmel Robinson, Acting Director of Nursing (2nd from right).

Ruralco-Rodwells Kilmore’s Family Fun Day was held on Saturday 24 October at their Powlett Street premises. The event was well-attended and raised $837.00 for the Kilmore & District Hospital and $378.00 for the Kilmore CFA.
“Ruralco-Rodwells Kilmore has been part of the local business community for over 30 years and a major focus of our company is supporting our local community,” said Wayne Weston, Kilmore Branch Manager.
“With the generous support of local businesses, suppliers, customers and our staff we are pleased that we were able to raise funds for the The Kilmore & District Hospital and CFA.”
The Kilmore & District Hospital, Acting CEO, Colin Clark said “This type of fundraising is fantastic for our hospital and assists us to purchase much needed equipment. We very much appreciate the efforts of Ruralco and thank them for support of our hospital.”
Over the week of October 15th to 22nd celebrations take place across the State to recognise public sector aged care workers.
This year, The Kilmore and District Hospital will delay their celebrations to acknowledge how much their aged care staff are appreciated until Friday 13 November 2015. On that day a celebratory high tea will be held at Caladenia Nursing Home and Dianella Hostel to recognise the hard work of the Aged Care Staff at both residences and their commitment to the care of residents.
Celebrating Aged Care Week has been running since 2012 and is an initiative of the Public Sector Residential Aged Care Leadership Committee; a network of public sector aged care directors of nursing committed to the improvement of the public residential aged care sector.
As you can see below - OUR STAFF GO TO ALL LENGTHS TO ENTERTAIN OUR RESIDENTS!!
Proving that it's never too late to learn
Residents, families & staff will recognise these two ladies as long standing staff members from Caladenia Nursing Home. Both “local residents”, Shirley (Wallan) and Wendy (Wandong) have, between them, 40 years of service as Enrolled Nurses to Caladenia.
Proving that it is never too late to learn a new skill, Shirley & Wendy recently undertook their Medication Endorsement, a course that allows them to administer medications. The course involves 134 hours of classroom based and self directed learning theory, 76 hours of supervised practical experience and a final exam after clinical placement. Wendy and Shirley tell us that although they found the course challenging it has also been very rewarding. Well done Wendy & Shirley!
The Opp Shop has once again provided two large donations to KDH. One cheque for $13,000 to pay for a new palliative care bed and a further cheque for $26,634.20 to cover half the cost of an operating table. The Opp Shop have raised a massive sum of over $500,000 since it started, with the Hospital being the beneficiary. A huge thanks to the many volunteers and the committee. Pictured above left are members of the committee, together with Hospital representatives and right, President Shirley Robinson presenting the Cheques to Acting CEO (and DON), Jenny Salkeld.
We are proud to welcome our first patient to the New Hospital Wing! Natalie Cain from Puckapunyal gave birth to Mackenzie on Tuesday 23 June 2015. Natalie said it was brilliant to be in the new wing. She also said the midwifes and staff at KDH were amazing - she could not have been happier.
Pictured above is Natalie's family, together with some of the KDH family.

The Hospital also welcomed our first GEM patients on 6 July 2015 as part of our partnership with Northern Health. The GEM patients are also located in the new hospital wing.
Congratulations to The Kilmore & District Hospital on sailing through their Accreditation on 16 & 17 June!! Staff & Management did an amazing job and the surveyors were impressed across the board with all the services at the Hospital. The teamwork at KDH is outstanding! Whilst it was a team effort, special thanks go to our Director of Nursing, Jenny Salkeld for her fantastic effort coordinating everything. Pictured below are a large number of staff hearing the summation of the surveyors.
On Friday 15 May 2015, the Hospital Redevelopment Project was official opened by the Minister for Health, The Hon Jill Hennessy. Pictured right is Minister Hennessey with KDH Board Chair, Julia McGill.
